Share and share alike

Firefox file transfer is completeA lot of the time, getting a large photo or document or video to someone else involves a lot of cumbersome email attachments, wacky file storage systems, work-arounds or just giving up.

A clean and easy site called DropDo (http://dropdo.com/) has emerged that seems to make it very simple. Upload a large file, get a link for you to share. The visitor to your link can preview the file online, and optionally download it.

There are a lot of other ways to share and collaborate online, so this service is not necessarily new.  Box.net and Dropbox have been around for a while, and offer web-based file storage and sharing and collaboration features, that are far more advanced than DropDo’s single-file-share service. And there are many more.  Each offers something different and unique (some simple, some feature-rich).

Tim Berners Lee created the basic architecture for the Web in November 1989.  It was his creation of HTML and URLs that formed the basis of universality and connectivity, that gives the Web gets its unique power. The web allows for unprecedented collaboration and sharing of ideas, and these are just a few tools to help make that easier.
