Apple vs Android

According to a release from ComScore, Google’s Android ranked as the top mobile platform, with 36.4% of U.S. smartphone subscribers. Apple assums the #2 position with 26% of the smartphone market. RIM ranked a close third with a 25.7% share, followed by Microsoft (6.7%) and Palm (2.6%).

This confirms other reports and measures recently, claiming far more Android device activations compared to Apple’s iPhone.

So, what do people (US mobile subscribers) do with smart phones?

  • 68.8% used text messaging
  • 39.1% used browsers
  • 37.8% used apps
  • 23.7% played games
  • 16.5% listened to music

In this horserace, Android is pulling ahead of Apple. Yet, it’s also pretty well known that Apple still outnumbers Android in the App-count category. Perhaps we’ll start to see a shift in development, and more Android apps will emerge. Or, the order in which they get done will shift to Android first.
